ASTD Conference 2012 - Wednesday

For my final session at ASTD 2012 I thought I would try something a little different and went to the Leader as Storyteller presented by Evrim Kuram of Dinamo Training and Consulting. Evrim means evolution in Turkish (which was so memorable because of her first story) and the lady herself had a delightful presentation style – lots of energy and very engaging. In truth, this session focused primarily on why leaders should tell stories (i.e. if content is King, then context is Queen) rather than

ASTD Conference 2012 - Tuesday

Following her impactful performance on yesterday’s panel session, I decided to switch my planned first session today and attend Beverly Kaye’s May I See Your Whine List? How managers can support development.Key messages from Bev’s intro were:- Organizations should begin to reward people for just growing in their careers.- What sounds like a whine is actually an opportunity to understand an employee’s specific requests for change.- Can employees see their own future within the

ASTD International Conference and Exposition 2012

Save the Date! This year’s ASTD (American Society of Training & Development) International Conference and Exposition is being held in one of my favorite cities in the world – Denver, Colorado. The dates are 6-9 May, maybe a little late for combining it with some skiing but who knows?I’m not planning on presenting at this year’s conference but there are sure to be some excellent speakers from around the world, as ever. I have always found the annual ASTD Conference provides an

ASTD Conference 2012 - Monday

I spent some time earlier in the day exploring the Expo. Maybe it was the new aftershave I’m wearing but there were far fewer enthusiastic sales people grabbing me than is usually the case. The one stand where I spent some considerable time was speaking with Dustin Clinard of MindGym. Their revamped curriculum of 90 minute sessions looks excellent for supporting development across a range of business skills areas. And, as someone who is focused on developing people across the globe, including

ASTD Conference 2012 - Sunday

Having spent a relaxing Saturday exploring the delights of Denver, today (Sunday) I eased my way into the 2012 ASTD conference. Registration was slick, although throughout the day the queue for collecting the freebies from the ASTD stand was sufficiently long to deter me from collecting my goodie bag.Of the sessions I attended today, the highlight was the presentation by Vicki Swisher of Korn/Ferry International on Learning Agility: The X-Factor in Identifying and Developing Future Leaders.

What is the best backlink software?

While building a site that has a great user experience and good on page SEO is critical, you need to build high quality backlinks in order for your site to rank high in the search engines, especially if you are operating in a competitive niche. Of course, this can be done manually but frankly, that is tedious and time consuming. Therefore, the smart way to build backlinks for your site is to automate the process. Or at least it used to be. The search engines don’t like backlinks to be

Finding Potential

I recently came across a great site, aptly named Finding Potential, that offers a bunch of free, high quality assessment tools. These tools provide a very useful solution for companies of all sizes and are focused in three areas:Personality Assessment - This is a simple personality questionnaire baed on self-assessment by individuals. It is ideally used as a predictive tool to support the hiring process. In order for this to be most effective you should start by benchmarking your ideal

Internal Linking and Silo Structures

One emerging approach to on page SEO is to use a silo linking structure. This is made easy by using WordPress due to the built-in category function but the method is not exlusive to those using WordPress. The diagram below shows a generic silo structure:             As you can see from the diagram, it involves organizing posts into categories. However, we advocate the (optional) use of another connection to each silo in the form of pages.

Submit Edge Review

Generally speaking we are advocates of people learning how to do their own SEO and therefore, generating their own backlinks. However, ‘time is money’ as the saying goes and sometimes it is better to spend time developing your site while
